In a landmark move for Kerala's tourism industry, the 'De Havilland Canada' seaplane touched down on the Bolgatty waterdrome near Kochi Lake, marking a new era in regional air connectivity. The landing was witnessed by an array of dignitaries, including Tourism Secretary K Biju and Aviation Secretary Biju Prabhakar.
State Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas is set to inaugurate the seaplane's maiden voyage to Mattupetti, while Industries Minister P Rajeeve will lead the ceremony at Bolgatty Palace. The announcement follows successful trial operations in neighboring states, affirming the initiative's aim to link Kerala's airports with its waterways.
The seaplane service, which falls under the Ministry of Civil Aviation's Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN, promises to enhance travel efficiency across the state by offering subsidised fares. Officials assure that extensive surveys have confirmed the project's feasibility, which could revolutionize the state's travel infrastructure.
