In response to the rising number of bird hits at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, the Airfield Environment Management Committee (AEMC) is urging local authorities to implement measures to minimize these incidents, officials stated.
A meeting convened by Dr. Pravat Ranjan Beuria, Kolkata airport director, and chaired by West Bengal's Home Secretary, Nandini Chakravorty, discussed strategies to improve airspace security. Beuria noted 18 bird hits occurred this year, raising concerns about safety.
To curb bird activities, civic bodies are tasked with regular garbage cleaning and other waste management practices. The committee highlighted environmental cleanliness and addressed the interference of laser lights, which poses challenges for pilots during operations.
