In an announcement made on Saturday, Tripura's Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury stated that the government will start rationing petrol from November 10. This move comes as a response to supply interruptions due to a railway derailment affecting the Lumding-Badarpur section.
Chowdhury explained that there was a significant drop in fuel reserves, which necessitated the rationing. From Sunday, two-wheeler owners will be able to purchase petrol worth Rs 200 per day, three-wheelers Rs 400, and four-wheelers Rs 1000.
The derailment, which affected approximately 5 km of railway track and involved a fuel tanker, occurred on October 31 and has disrupted the fuel supply chain. However, according to Northeast Frontier Railway's (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer, passenger services remain unaffected and full restoration is expected by November 13.
