Global water technology leader A.O. Smith Corporation has announced the successful acquisition of the water purification business Pureit from FMCG giant HUL. This acquisition marks a significant expansion in AO Smith's water treatment portfolio.
Pureit, known for its comprehensive range of residential water purifiers, operates in key markets such as India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Mexico. The deal, part of a global divestment by HUL's parent, Unilever, fetched USD 72 million (approximately Rs 600 crore) for the local transaction.
AO Smith paid approximately USD 120 million in cash for Pureit, subject to usual adjustments. Chairman and CEO K J Wheeler highlighted how this aligns with the company's strategy to enhance scale and distribution in premium markets. With Pureit's addition, AO Smith aims to fortify its presence across South Asia.
