Renowned economist and scholar Bibek Debroy, known for his profound knowledge of ancient texts and Sanskrit, passed away at the age of 69. His contributions to policy-making as the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister were highly praised by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her condolence message on Friday.
Debroy's remarkable career included translating epic Sanskrit texts into English, showcasing his knack for extracting insights from traditional scripts. His book, 'Sarama and Her Children', remains a testament to his scholarly prowess. Sitharaman expressed the nation's loss, emphasizing Debroy's unfinished scholarly initiatives.
Tributes also poured in from Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das and Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of EAC-PM, who referred to Debroy as a mentor and guide. Debroy's educational journey spanned Ramakrishna Mission School, Presidency College, and further studies at Trinity College, Cambridge.
