The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has unveiled the Digital India Common Service Centre (DICSC) project, a significant initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide in rural areas. Initially launched in Pilibhit and Gorakhpur, the project aspires to extend essential digital services to every Indian citizen.
According to the ministry's announcement on Friday, a model DICSC center is to be established in nearly all gram panchayats across 10 districts, spanning a total of 4,740 centres nationwide. In Pilibhit, 720 centers will be established, while Gorakhpur will house 1,273. The project also extends to other regions like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra, Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, and Khammam in Telangana, among others.
The project's primary objective is to construct an integrated platform offering vital e-governance, banking, tele-health, and educational services to rural populations. Supported by a funding of Rs 31.6088 crore, the initiative underscores the ministry's commitment to fostering local economic growth, entrepreneurship, and sustainable service delivery through the use of modern infrastructure and centralized monitoring.
