The Biden administration is injecting nearly $3 billion into enhancing climate-friendly infrastructure at ports nationwide, including Baltimore. This funding aims to reduce pollution, foster job creation, and combat the climate crisis as part of the broader goals set by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
During a visit to Baltimore's main port, President Biden emphasized the importance of ports in maintaining America's supply chain, particularly in the wake of a bridge collapse that disrupted shipping. The initiative is set to create around 40,000 union jobs while cutting operating costs and consumer prices.
The Clean Ports Program, managed by the Environmental Protection Agency, will distribute grants to 55 ports across the U.S. The funding is expected to significantly cut carbon emissions and other pollutants, aligning with Biden's commitment to environmental justice and strengthening communities without harming the economy.
