The Indian Railways has renewed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Swiss Confederation's Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) to enhance technical cooperation, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
This renewed agreement, which received backing from the ministries of Railways and External Affairs, was formalized via video conferencing. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated the MoU provides a comprehensive framework for collaboration in areas like technology sharing, track maintenance, and construction, facilitating modernisation efforts.
Albert Roesti, Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal DETEC, noted Switzerland's advanced railway technology would enhance the Indian Railways' operational efficiency and safety standards. Initially signed on August 31, 2017, the MoU extends collaboration in rolling stock, train sets, and more, promising improved railway services in India.
