Authorities in the Indian state of Haryana have arrested 16 farmers for illegally burning paddy stubble, a practice that significantly contributes to air pollution in the region surrounding New Delhi.

As winter approaches, the Indian national capital's pollution levels soar, aggravated by factors such as construction dust and vehicle emissions. The situation is further intensified by smoke carried from the neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana.

Delhi recorded alarmingly high air pollution levels, with an Air Quality Index of 320, placing it among the most polluted cities globally. Authorities are deploying emergency measures, including water sprinkling and increased public transport, as the city grapples with the worsening air quality crisis.
