Commercial vehicle owners in Mizoram have announced an indefinite strike starting October 23, demanding a reduction in fuel prices. The government raised petrol from Rs 93.93 to Rs 99.24 per litre, and diesel from Rs 82.62 to Rs 88.02 per litre, effective September 1.

Despite prior negotiations and assurances from Chief Minister Lalduhoma, the state cabinet decided not to reverse the fuel price hikes. As a result, on October 17, 11 vehicle owners' associations decided the strike would proceed, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction among the community.

The Mizoram government justified the hikes as necessary for welfare, citing social infrastructure needs and road maintenance. However, the Mizoram Commercial Vehicle Union insists the increases also burden the public and reiterates calls for price reductions.
