Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia emphasized the telecom sector's impressive advancements during the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit 2024 in New Delhi. He described a 'complete sea transformation' in service delivery to India's 1.4 billion citizens, highlighting the Unified Payments Interface's (UPI) monumental success, having achieved transactions of USD 275 billion in August alone.
Scindia noted that India has accomplished the world's fastest 5G rollout, covering 98% of its districts and 80% of its population in just 22 months. Plans are underway to convert the 4G network to 5G, making India the sixth country to achieve this. He praised India's partnership with the US, calling Prime Minister Modi's visit a landmark moment that catalyzed this progress.
Scindia commented on the transformative power of telecom, which democratizes access to information, and predicted further growth of government-funded startups and unicorns in India. He announced initiatives like 5G intelligent villages, aiming to eliminate the digital divide. LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky discussed the rapid evolution of job skills due to technological advances, particularly AI, anticipating up to a 70% change in skill requirements by 2030.
