Southern Railway General Manager R N Singh spearheaded a safety inspection across the Thiruvananthapuram Division on Wednesday, concentrating efforts on the Kanyakumari to Alappuzha segment. According to an official release, the inspection aimed to assess track maintenance, bridge renovation, and the progress of station redevelopment at pivotal locations including Kanyakumari, Nagercoil Junction, Eraniel, Nemom, Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kollam Junction, and Alappuzha.
Interacting extensively with railway officials, designers, contractors, and architects, Singh suggested significant enhancements to passenger amenities and emphasized the need for completing projects ahead of schedule. Notably, 50% of the redevelopment work at Nagercoil Junction under the Amrit Station Scheme is in progress with plans for a new foot overbridge.
Further evaluations at Numboem Railway Station and Thiruvananthapuram Central revealed future-oriented passenger facility improvements. Key infrastructure upgrades under review include a Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) at Kollam Junction, slated for completion by January 2025, and a track doubling project to bolster the coastal rail route between Ambalapuzha and Ernakulam. Inspections are set to continue on Thursday, accompanied by notable railway officials including Chief Administrative Officer Shaji Zachariah and Divisional Railway Manager Manish Thaplyal.
