In a bid to enhance income stability amid erratic weather conditions, Jharkhand's farmers are turning to animal husbandry. State officials announced that the initiative is a safeguard against crop losses experienced during consecutive drought-like conditions in 2022 and 2023. The state government has earmarked support through various initiatives.

The Hemant Soren administration has introduced the Mukhyamantri Pashudhan Vikas Yojana, targeting increased production of milk, meat, and eggs. This aims to meet local demands and reduce dependency on imports. A range of benefits under the scheme includes grants, livestock purchasing subsidies, and veterinary care.

Underpinning this effort is a new policy ensuring animal insurance. The government has also deployed 236 mobile veterinary units, offering medical services to livestock farmers. With over 1.56 lakh beneficiaries already reached, Jharkhand's commitment to fortifying its agrarian backbone is clear.
