The Balkan nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been ravaged by severe floods and landslides, leading to the deaths of at least 22 people. Villages have been devastated, while crucial transport infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, officials reported on Tuesday.
The economic impact is severe, with the railway line connecting central Bosnia to the port of Ploce in Croatia left in ruins. Local businesses and households alike have been submerged, and the loss of cattle further exacerbates the crisis.
Samir Kadric of Zeljeznice Federacije BiH estimated daily losses from disrupted transportation at approximately 280,000 Bosnian marka. Companies like Adriatic Metals are opting for road transport as a temporary measure while repairs are underway.
