After suspending flight bookings to the Maldives in January following a diplomatic dispute, EaseMyTrip.com announced on Friday it has resumed bookings to the popular island destination. The change comes as a result of improved bilateral ties between India and the Maldives.
CEO Nishant Pitti addressed the prior controversy over flight bookings during a period in May, noting that such bookings were mistakenly allowed but quickly rectified. The company faced scrutiny earlier from the Kerala Congress on social media after dropping Maldives flights in support of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a statement, co-founder Pitti emphasized the company's commitment to national interests, following discussions with the Maldives Ministry of Tourism. The resumed services highlight a renewed partnership aimed at promoting tourism and fostering mutual understanding between the nations.
