In a significant diplomatic move, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss ways to enhance and strengthen bilateral ties. The talks centered around boosting cooperation in tourism, energy, and investment sectors. Jaishankar assured continued Indian support for Sri Lanka's economic recovery.

During his day-long visit, the first by a foreign dignitary since the new government took power, Jaishankar held discussions with other key Sri Lankan leaders, including Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. The focus was on reinforcing partnerships and advancing collaborative efforts across numerous sectors.

Sri Lanka's economic rebuilding efforts have been a priority for India, especially under the SAGAR initiative and the 'Neighbourhood First Policy,' which highlight the importance of cooperation in regional security and growth. India's commitment follows substantial financial aid provided during Sri Lanka's financial crisis last year.
