The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and the All India Mobile Retailers' Association (AIMRA) have demanded urgent action against e-commerce giants Flipkart and Amazon, citing predatory pricing practices and significant tax evasions in a newly issued white paper.
The organizations claim that these practices are contributing to the creation of a grey market for mobile phones, resulting in substantial losses to government revenue. The white paper also accuses the companies of violating foreign direct investment (FDI) policies and other regulatory frameworks.
AIMRA founder Kailash Lakhyani has called for a suspension of operations for at least 1-2 years of Chinese brands engaged in such activities, alleging that they add no value to the Indian economy. A strong statement from CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal emphasized the need for a level playing field in the retail industry.
