Manipur Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba has officially requested Union Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister K Rammohon Naidu to reconsider the fare policy for flights in the Imphal sector. The MP highlighted the urgent need for concessional and affordable air travel for the residents of Manipur.
Due to an unprecedented law and order situation, road travel for the Meitei community has been severely disrupted, with critical highways unsafe to traverse. This has forced residents, including students and patients, to rely on air travel to reach cities like Guwahati and Kolkata, adding financial strain.
Leishemba stressed that the predicament has led airlines to hike fares, worsening the burden on the people. He urged immediate action to make airfares more affordable, especially for students and patients, highlighting that over 200 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless due to ethnic violence in the region since last year.
