Typhoon Krathon Set to Hit Taiwan's Densely Populated Western Coast

Taiwan has issued a land warning for Typhoon Krathon, set to hit the western coast with torrential rain. Typically, typhoons strike the less populated eastern coast. Taiwan has issued a land warning ahead of Typhoon Krathon's anticipated arrival on its densely populated western coast, bringing unusually heavy rain. Typically, typhoons hit the less populated eastern coast, making this event notable.

Classified as a medium strength typhoon, Krathon is projected to impact the key port city of Kaohsiung on Wednesday. It will then traverse the island's bottom tip before exiting back into the Pacific Ocean, according to the Central Weather Administration. The storm has already caused the cancellation of boats to Taiwan's outlying islands and some domestic flights.

This alert comes on the heels of July's Typhoon Gaemi, which resulted in at least 11 fatalities in Taiwan, underscoring the potential danger of the impending storm.
