Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday dedicated the Bidkin Industrial Area (BIA) in Maharashtra to the nation, aiming to boost domestic manufacturing, according to an official statement.

The Prime Minister participated virtually in the event, while the ceremony in Pune saw the attendance of Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, among other dignitaries.

Spanning 7,855 acres, the Bidkin Industrial Area has been developed under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) as part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. This industrial hub, located 20 km south of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, is poised to catalyse economic growth in the Marathwada region, according to the commerce and industry ministry.

The Union government approved the Rs 6,414 crore project, to be developed in three phases. Phase A, covering 2,511 acres, has been prioritized with an investment of Rs 2,427 crore.

The Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL), a special purpose vehicle with a 51:49 partnership between Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), is spearheading the project. The Bidkin Industrial Area now boasts wide roads, quality water and power supply, and advanced sewage and common effluent treatment plants.

Significant investments have already poured in, with companies like Ather Energy, Lubrizol, Toyota-Kirloskar, and JSW Green Mobility committing substantial acreage and investments. Together, these projects represent a total investment of Rs 56,200 crore and over 30,000 potential jobs.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that Bidkin is set to become a beacon of industrial excellence, driving employment, boosting exports, and contributing to the overall development of the region.
