Marking a decade of the 'Make in India' initiative, Union Minister Piyush Goyal underscored the importance of producing high-quality goods to bolster Brand India through sustainable practices. In an interactive session on Sunday, Goyal engaged with CEOs of over 140 companies benefiting from the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, celebrating their achievements.

Goyal commended their substantial contributions to growth in key sectors, job creation, and elevating India as a global manufacturing hub. He urged these industry leaders to enhance domestic value addition and support local manufacturers. The session was an opportunity for an open dialogue on boosting self-reliance.

During the three-hour discussion, CEOs shared their experiences, success stories, and suggestions for improving PLI schemes. Goyal also sought feedback on liberalizing laws to ease business practices. The PLI scheme has realized investments of Rs1.46 lakh crore and anticipates reaching Rs2 lakh crore. Notably, production and sales hit Rs12.50 lakh crore, generating around 9.5 lakh jobs, with exports surpassing Rs4 lakh crore.

Mobile phone manufacturing in the electronics sector now represents half of India's output, tripling exports since FY 2020-21. The pharmaceutical industry reduced import dependence by revitalizing bulk drugs and complex generics production. Significant investments have fueled electric vehicle production and the technology transfer for critical medical devices.

The food processing sector's contributions have improved sustainable agriculture by focusing on millet and organic products. Emerging sectors like drones and solar PV modules have witnessed significant growth, driven by local investments and MSMEs.
