The Indian government is weighing a potential increase in the prices of ethanol and sugar for the 2024-25 season. Food Minister Pralhad Joshi revealed this development on Thursday.

Joshi confirmed that the proposal to hike ethanol prices is under active consideration by the government, with the petroleum ministry leading the review.

Furthermore, the minister noted that the administration is also evaluating a proposal to raise the minimum selling price of sugar, currently fixed at Rs 31 per kg since February 2019. He added that favorable monsoon conditions bode well for robust sugar production in the upcoming season.
