Britain Moves Troops to Cyprus Amid Escalating Lebanon Crisis
Britain has moved 700 troops to Cyprus to aid in the evacuation of nationals trapped in Lebanon. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called for diplomacy and an immediate ceasefire amid Israel's airstrikes and escalating conflict with Hezbollah. The situation risks destabilizing the Middle East further.
Britain has mobilized 700 troops to Cyprus to facilitate the evacuation of nationals stranded in Lebanon, amid escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah. Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged for diplomacy and a ceasefire to prevent the conflict from spiraling further out of control.
Following Israeli airstrikes that resulted in Lebanon's deadliest day since the civil war ended in 1990, Starmer warned British citizens to leave the region immediately while commercial flights are still operational. 'It's very important that they hear my message, which is to leave and to leave immediately,' he stressed.
The government announced late Tuesday that the deployment of troops to Cyprus would strengthen its existing presence in the area, which includes Royal Navy ships, aircraft, and transport helicopters. The scale of Israel's airstrikes—the largest in nearly two decades—has heightened fears of an expanding Middle East conflict that could further destabilize the region.
