Ghana Gas CEO Benjamin Asante is set to speak at the African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energy 2024 conference, taking place from November 4-8 in Cape Town. His participation reaffirms Ghana Gas' commitment to securing foreign investment and advancing the country's energy infrastructure. Under Ghana’s Gas Master Plan, the country aims to expand its natural gas value chain and meet its target of universal electricity access by 2030. Asante will outline key opportunities for investors and project developers at the conference.

Ghana is intensifying its focus on natural gas infrastructure as a crucial part of its strategy to diversify the energy sector. Two significant projects include the Tema Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) plant and the Atuabo II Gas Processing Plant. The Tema FLNG, set to commence operations by the end of the year, is a $350 million private equity venture developed by Helois Investment Partners. It will have an annual capacity of 1.7 million tons of LNG, offering a critical boost to the Greater Accra Area's gas supply.

Scheduled for completion by 2025, the Atuabo II Gas Processing Plant will process various gas products, including LNG, propane, butane, and condensates. Initially capable of processing 150 million standard cubic feet per day, the plant's capacity could double to 300 million cubic feet, reinforcing the nation's gas supply chain.

Further downstream, Ghana is working to expand gas infrastructure across the country. Genser Energy commissioned a 100-kilometer natural gas pipeline in April 2024, linking western Ghana’s gas fields with the Kumasi I Thermal Power Plant in the north, a region known for its commercial enterprises. Once fully operational, the pipeline will form part of a 420-kilometer gas network supporting various power facilities, including the 500 MW AKSA and 330 MW CENIT plants.

Speaking on Ghana's broader energy ambitions, NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, emphasized the potential of natural gas to spur electrification and industrialization across Africa. He acknowledged Ghana Gas as a driving force behind new projects and collaborations that are expected to attract international investment and fuel long-term economic growth.

At AEW 2024, Benjamin Asante will provide updates on Ghana's pipeline of natural gas projects and explore investment opportunities while addressing industry challenges. His participation in the event highlights the strategic importance of Ghana's energy landscape and opens new doors for collaboration across the gas value chain.
