The Philippines is setting a transformative agenda for employment and social protection with the launch of a roadmap under the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions. This initiative unites government bodies and United Nations (UN) agencies to support decent work, particularly focusing on the construction and transportation sectors. As a pathfinder country for the Global Accelerator, the Philippines is receiving dedicated support from the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, with key participation from the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

In a recent consultation held on September 20, stakeholders from the national government reviewed the roadmap’s next steps and timeline.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) are ensuring that the roadmap aligns with the Trabaho Para sa Bayan Act Plan (TBP), the country's comprehensive strategy for job creation and economic recovery.

The initiative will kick off with the Joint Programme on Supporting Decent Job Creation and Enhancing Social Protection for Just Transition in the Philippines, funded through a seed funding track. This program aims to provide a structured approach to job creation and enhance social safety nets, ensuring that vulnerable populations are prioritized. The Global Accelerator is committed to uniting Member States, UN agencies, international financial institutions, public development banks, social partners, civil society, and the private sector to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

By fostering collaboration, the initiative aims to create decent jobs while extending social protection coverage to those in need. As a high-level initiative led by the UN Secretary-General, the Global Accelerator has set ambitious goals: to generate 400 million decent jobs, with a focus on green, digital, and care economies, and to extend social protection to the 4 billion people currently excluded globally. This commitment underscores the importance of solidarity and cooperation among stakeholders to ensure that no one is left behind in the transition to a more equitable and sustainable future.

The Global Accelerator initiative not only seeks to address immediate employment challenges but also aims to build a resilient workforce capable of adapting to the evolving demands of the global economy, making it a pivotal step toward sustainable development in the Philippines.
