Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Monday underscored the critical need to develop the sector of aviation psychology, alongside implementing strong stress and fatigue management systems, to ensure the safety of aircraft operations.

Addressing a national seminar on Human Factors in Aircraft Accidents organized by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in the national capital, Naidu stated that maintaining ongoing safety is a collective responsibility, with human factors being significant contributors to aircraft accidents.

Naidu pointed out the need for safety measures to keep pace with the rapid growth of the Indian aviation sector, which is among the fastest-growing in the world. He advocated for continuous skilling and upskilling of aviation personnel and called for formal programmes in aviation psychology and integration of advanced psychological aspects into training. With over 1,200 planes ordered by Indian airlines, Naidu also stressed the necessity for enhanced technical and cognitive skills for those in the aircraft maintenance segment.
