Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw undertook a hands-on journey through Mumbai's bustling local train network on Friday, mingling with everyday commuters.

Vaishnaw embarked from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 2:34 pm, travelling 27 km to Bhandup station where he arrived at 3:18 pm. The minister, in the city for an awards function, took the second class coach of an Ambernath-bound slow local train.

During the ride, the minister fielded requests from commuters for more train services and improvements to tackle frequent disruptions. Vaishnaw highlighted 12 critical projects underway in the Mumbai metropolitan region, amounting to Rs 16,240 crore, poised to add over 301 kilometers to one of the densest rail networks globally. He assured that these projects, including several new lines and elevated corridors, will significantly enhance the commuting experience and capacity.
