Indian Airlines See 5.7% Passenger Growth in August Despite Operational Hiccups
Indian airlines carried 1.31 crore passengers in August, marking a 5.7% increase compared to the previous year. Despite growth, 1,79,744 passengers faced flight delays, and 38,599 were affected by cancellations. Akasa Air led in On Time Performance, while IndiGo retained the highest market share at 62.4%.

Indian airlines carried a record 1.31 crore passengers in August, reflecting a 5.7% growth year-on-year, according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
However, the sector faced several operational challenges. Around 1,79,744 passengers experienced flight delays, resulting in airlines compensating a total of Rs 2.44 crore. Additionally, 38,599 passengers were affected by flight cancellations, incurring a compensation cost of Rs 1.14 crore.
Despite these hurdles, IndiGo led the market share at 62.4%, and Akasa Air topped the On Time Performance charts at 71.2%. Complaints per 10,000 passengers stood at 0.79 in August 2024.
