India, under the guidance of Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, is making significant strides towards achieving a sustainable and low-carbon future. Honoring its COP 26 commitments, the nation aims to reduce carbon emissions while advancing development goals, targeting 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.

According to the Ministry of Coal, NLC India Limited (NLCIL) intends to triple its power generation capacity by 2030 to ensure energy security and sustainability. The goal includes ramping up renewable energy output from 1.43 GW to 10.11 GW, reflecting a 50 percent reliance on renewables.

NLCIL's subsidiary, NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL), is set to spearhead the renewable energy portfolio. With 2 GW of renewable assets currently under development, NIGEL plans to grow through competitive bidding and exploring green energy opportunities, reducing India's dependency on conventional energy and coal imports while ensuring continuous power supply.

Looking forward, NLCIL aims to bolster its renewable energy share from 50 percent in 2030 to 77 percent by 2047, steering the company towards achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070. As the energy landscape evolves, NLCIL will focus on innovations to reduce emissions from existing thermal plants and does not anticipate new thermal power projects post-2030. (ANI)
