In a groundbreaking move, Denmark's DSV announced on Friday its agreement to acquire Schenker, the logistics unit of German state rail operator Deutsche Bahn, for 14.3 billion euros ($15.85 billion). This deal positions DSV as the world's leading freight forwarder.
The acquisition, described by DSV as a transformative transaction, elevates the Danish company above Swiss competitor Kuehne und Nagel in terms of both volume and revenue. Sources revealed to Reuters that DSV had emerged victorious in the competition to purchase Schenker.
This historic acquisition, the most significant for a Danish firm, will generate combined revenues of 293 billion Danish crowns ($43.52 billion) and create a robust workforce of approximately 147,000 employees across more than 90 countries. Richard Lutz, CEO of Deutsche Bahn, expressed confidence in DSV as a strong partner for Schenker and a long-term home for its employees.
