From Friday, Delhi Metro commuters can use a digital smart card for their daily commute as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) introduces the 'Multiple Journey QR Ticket' (MJQRT) facility via its mobile app.

Similar to the metro smart card, MJQRT can be recharged up to Rs 3,000. Users can manage their journeys, including fare payments and recharges, through the 'DMRC Momentum Delhi Sarthi 2.0' app.

During the launch, DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar highlighted that the QR code-based MJQRT simplifies travel, enhances convenience, and offers eco-friendly benefits.

To avail MJQRT, users must register on the app, starting with an initial amount of Rs 150. No security deposit is required, and recharges can be made in multiples of Rs 50 using digital payment methods. The minimum balance required for travel is Rs 60, with discounts provided during peak and off-peak hours.

DMRC said the MJQRT is a pioneering digital effort, marking the first introduction of a QR-based multiple-journey product in India. The feature, available from Friday, offers an eco-friendly and economical alternative to traditional smart cards. Any remaining balance remains secure even if the device is lost or damaged and can be accessed by logging in on another device.

The MJQRT is part of DMRC's broader initiative to provide multiple ticket booking modes, fare media, and payment options, adding to the current choices of single journey QR tickets, NCMC, and DMRC smart cards.
