The 20th meeting of the Maritime Development Council commenced in Goa on Thursday, marking a significant discussion on key programs under the Narendra Modi government's initiative. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the progress of flagship projects such as Sagarmala.

During a press conference, Sonowal outlined plans like the 'Maritime India Vision 2030' and 'Maritime Amrit Kal Vision 2047,' engaging with coastal state authorities and Union territories to map the future course for the sector.

Sonowal highlighted India's achievements over the past decade, crediting enhanced port operations which have increased cargo handling capacity. The World Bank's Logistics Performance Index also noted India's growth. Efforts to boost cruise tourism and significant investments in new projects were also discussed.
