The Madhya Pradesh government has approved the transfer of operations of the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation and its affiliated milk unions to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) for the next five years.
The decision was announced during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in Bhopal. However, the opposition Congress resisted the move, accusing it of being a covert takeover by Gujarat co-operative dairy Amul.
CM Yadav stated that there is a consensus on this decision, which aims to increase the income of farmers and position the state as a leader in milk production. Necessary amendments to the Cooperative Act will be made to facilitate this shift. Opposition Congress member Vivek Tankha criticized the move as a backdoor takeover by Amul.
