Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled India's substantial progress in the semiconductor industry during the SEMICON India summit at the India Expo Mart. He noted the swift approval of five semiconductor units, with construction already underway in several areas, including a micron unit and the Morigaon Tata unit.

Emphasizing the government's commitment to talent development, Vaishnaw announced a plan to build a talent pool of 85,000 engineers and technicians over the next decade. So far, 113 universities, academic institutions, and R&D organizations have partnered to offer industry-designed semiconductor-focused curricula.

Vaishnaw also praised the Lam Research Semiverse programme for training 2,600 students across 74 universities this year, with plans for significant expansion. He highlighted further milestones, including AMB's global design centre in Bengaluru employing 5,000 engineers, and Applied Materials' new India validation centre. He underlined the critical role of a robust design ecosystem in India's semiconductor programme, involving over 300,000 engineers.
