Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen, calling upon the global scientific community to contribute to shaping policies for the green hydrogen sector. "I urge the global scientific community to come together to explore various aspects. Scientists and innovators can suggest changes in public policy to help the green hydrogen sector. We want to make India a global hub for the production, utilization, and export of Green Hydrogen," PM Modi stated.

PM Modi noted that the world is undergoing a crucial energy transition and emphasized the need for sustainability. Highlighting India's achievement among G-20 Nations in meeting Paris Agreement commitments ahead of schedule, he said, "India installed non-fossil fuel capacity increased by nearly 300 per cent in the last ten years. Our solar energy capacity surged by over three thousand per cent in the same period. However, we are not resting on these laurels and remain committed to strengthening existing solutions," he added.

Discussing the benefits of green hydrogen, PM Modi asserted its potential in decarbonizing hard-to-electrify industries such as refineries, fertilizers, and steel. He mentioned the National Green Hydrogen Mission that promotes innovation, infrastructure, and investments. "We are investing in cutting-edge research and forming partnerships between industry and academia," Modi said.

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, pointed out India's advantages in producing Green Hydrogen due to its abundant solar energy and enhanced power grid. "India's installed solar capacity has increased 32 times from 2.6 GW in 2014 to 85.5 GW, with one of the largest synchronous grids globally, capable of managing intermittent renewable energy. India is set to lead the global green energy demand," Puri remarked.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, reinforced that green hydrogen is essential for sustainability. "India is progressing towards becoming a key global player in the green hydrogen market, which will enhance our global position and meet environmental and social goals," Joshi affirmed.
