Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, is gearing up to create a comprehensive ecosystem for electric vehicle (EV) buyers as it prepares to launch its first battery-powered model early next year.

The company plans to set up EV charging infrastructure and address other crucial elements, including resale avenues for such models.

Partho Banerjee, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales), highlighted that the company aims not just to launch a product but to provide a complete ecosystem for EV customers. He pointed out concerns over vehicle range, EV infrastructure, and the residual value of the vehicle after five years.

The first EV model, a mid-sized SUV, will be unveiled at the Bharat Mobility show in January, offering a driving range of over 500 km. On sales expectations for the festive season, Banerjee expressed optimism, saying the company expects a significant positive impact. Due to rising inventory levels, MSI has decided to calibrate dispatches to maintain a healthy network stock. The firm also reported a record-high rural penetration of 50 per cent.
