Thirty passengers traveling in an air-conditioned bus narrowly escaped when it caught fire on the Pune-Satara highway in Maharashtra on Tuesday afternoon, officials reported.

The incident, reported at 1.50 PM, occurred when the state transport's 'Shivshahi' bus reached Vadhefata near Satara city on the Swargate-Sangli route.

A spokesperson from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) shared that the bus, carrying 30 passengers and two crew members, caught fire following a burst of its left rear tire.

Fortunately, all passengers and crew members were unharmed. "There was no injury to anyone in the blaze," the official confirmed.

However, the bus incurred damages estimated at nearly Rs 25 lakh.

The MSRTC, one of the largest public transport corporations in the country, operates a fleet of over 15,000 AC and non-AC buses, transporting more than 60 lakh passengers daily.
