Air India Express Set for Major Leadership Transition Amidst Strategic Mergers

Air India Express (AIX) is preparing to merge with Tata Group's AIX Connect in October. Hamish Maxwell will take over as the new COO from Pushpinder Singh. The merger indicates significant leadership changes and aims for continued growth and operational efficiency within the group's low-cost airline segment.

Air India Express (AIX) is gearing up for a strategic merger with Tata Group subsidiary AIX Connect in October, as disclosed in an internal communication on Friday.

The new chief operating officer of the unified entity will be Hamish Maxwell, replacing Pushpinder Singh, who will return to Air India. AIX Connect operates as Air India's other low-cost airline.

Aloke Singh, Air India Express Managing Director, said the group is approaching two key milestones: the AIX Connect/Air India Express merger on 1st October and the Air India/Vistara merger on November 12. He emphasized the leadership transition within the group, marking Maxwell's stepping in as COO for the merged entity.

Pushpinder Singh, completing his deputation with AIX on October 31, has successfully navigated complex operational challenges. Under his leadership, the airline introduced over 30 aircraft, saw a 40% capacity increase, and expanded its flight network to 46 stations in just a year, Singh noted.

Maxwell, currently Senior Vice President for flight operations at Vistara, brings a wealth of experience. Having played a crucial role in Vistara's establishment and growth, as well as holding management roles in Singapore Airlines, Maxwell is well-equipped to lead AIX through its next phases of growth and transformation.
