A report published on Friday highlighted a notable decrease in home-cooked meal costs during the holy month of Shravan, attributed to a drop in tomato and poultry prices. This decline aligns with the tradition of abstaining from meat during this period.

According to the domestic rating agency Crisil, the cost of a vegetarian meal fell by 4 percent to Rs 31.2 per plate in August, compared to Rs 32.6 in July and Rs 34 in August of the previous year. The price of a non-veg thali also saw a 3 percent drop from the previous month, reaching Rs 59.3.

Crisil's monthly 'Roti Rice Rate' report identified a 23 percent reduction in tomato prices and a significant drop in the cost of poultry as key factors. Further contributing to lower meal costs were the reductions in LPG prices, as well as declines in vegetable oil, chili, and cumin prices. However, increases in onion and potato prices tempered the overall decline.
