The Delhi government is taking proactive steps to enhance safety across its bus networks by introducing biometric facial recognition systems in its depots. This move aims to prevent drivers from undertaking multiple shifts, a practice that has led to fatigue-related accidents.
In an official statement, authorities stated that the new system would monitor driver attendance and ensure strict adherence to single-shift guidelines. This follows concerning incidents where drivers fell asleep at the wheel, leading to accidents.
The Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot, emphasized that Aadhaar-based duty allocation would also be introduced, holding depot managers accountable for any violations. These measures are expected to greatly enhance the safety of both drivers and passengers.
