Since its inception in 2016, Jio has propelled India's rise from 155th to the top spot globally in mobile data consumption. Currently, Jio accounts for 8% of the world's total mobile data traffic, establishing itself as the largest mobile data network globally. The company now handles 60% of India's mobile data traffic over its 4G and 5G networks, with average data consumption per user increasing over 73 times since 2016.

On average, a Jio user consumes around 30 GB of data per month, illustrating the significant surge in digital engagement nationwide. In fiscal year 2024, Jio's data consumption reached 148.5 billion GB, comparable to the combined mobile data usage of Europe and the Middle East.

Despite surging data usage, India maintains the lowest data costs globally, with current prices 30 times lower than when Jio entered the market. Jio's influence extends beyond increased data consumption, significantly reinforcing India's digital economy and accelerating growth in sectors such as fintech, ed-tech, e-commerce, and technology startups.

This digital growth has also empowered millions of ordinary citizens by offering new earning opportunities through content creation, social media, and more. Jio's broad reach has facilitated true digital inclusion, providing high-speed data and rich content in regional and pan-Indian languages.

This accessibility has unlocked new revenue streams for diverse people, including truck drivers and tribal youth who've gained fame and income as influencers. The data revolution has also boosted India's digital entertainment sector, with many turning to full-time careers in content creation and digital channels.

Entering its eighth year as a leader, Jio has surpassed 490 million subscribers, including a record 130 million 5G users outside China. Jio has also established the world's largest and fastest stand-alone 5G network, with over 85% of India's 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) being part of the Jio network.

Beyond mobile services, Jio is rapidly expanding its fixed wireless and broadband offerings, becoming the fastest operator to cross 1 million fixed wireless connections due to high demand for JioAirFiber. Serving nearly 30 million homes with digital broadband and TV services, Jio aims to connect 100 million homes and 20 million small and medium businesses (SMBs) soon. Eight years ago, on September 5, Reliance Jio launched its services, initiating a digital revolution that transformed India's data landscape.
