IndiGo Airlines is preparing to initiate flight operations from Pakyong Airport in Sikkim beginning October, an official announced on Monday.

Pakyong Airport director Sanjeev Kumar Singh stated that the airline, along with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), is currently examining the commercial viability and data analysis for these new routes.

According to Singh, IndiGo plans to connect Pakyong with Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, a move expected to significantly boost tourism in Sikkim.

Additionally, Nepal's Buddha Air is aiming to establish a daily flight service from Kathmandu to Pakyong, pending approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Singh also revealed that discussions are in progress with Blade Air and Jetwing regarding potential operations at Pakyong Airport. The Sikkim government is reviewing Blade Air's proposal while Jetwing has already been allotted flights from Guwahati to Pakyong under India's Regional Connectivity Scheme and could start operations by November.

Currently, SpiceJet is the only airline operating flights between Delhi, Kolkata, and Pakyong.
