Delhi LG VK Saxena inspected the Kashmere Gate inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) on Saturday, calling for a complete makeover to reduce congestion in the area.
Saxena walked down the Rani Jhansi Road, directing officials to remove encroachments and improve the poor condition of footpaths and central verges.
During his inspection, he noticed significant congestion outside ISBT, caused by the high turnaround time of inter-state buses, ranging from 45 minutes to an hour.
Saxena instructed the Transport Commissioner and DTC to cut the turnaround time for these buses to 30 minutes to increase their circulation by over 50 percent.
The Kashmere Gate ISBT currently serves over 2,600 buses from 60 bays, including nearly 1,300 inter-state buses.
With the reduced turnaround time, ISBT will handle over 1,900 inter-state buses daily, up from the current 1,300.
Saxena also expressed dissatisfaction with the poor maintenance and sanitation at the terminal, and directed officials to repair and clean the facility within 15 days.
The LG also noted severe road encroachments and poor pavement conditions affecting large areas, and issued strict instructions for corrective actions through inter-departmental coordination.
