A Russian Mi-8T helicopter carrying 22 people has gone missing in the Kamchatka Peninsula, according to the Interfax news agency citing preliminary data from the federal air transport agency.

The helicopter took off from a base near the Vachkazhets volcano and was supposed to check in at 04:00 GMT. When the crew failed to report at the scheduled time, concerns arose, prompting an investigation.

The helicopter had three crew members and 19 passengers on board. Authorities are currently assessing the situation and looking for the missing aircraft.
