Mega Vadhvan Port Project Promises 12 Lakh Jobs and Boost for Maharashtra

The proposed Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra's Palghar district is poised to create 12 lakh jobs for local youth and women, according to Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The project is set to significantly boost local infrastructure and facilities once operational.
During the foundation stone ceremony, Sonowal emphasized that India's reputation as a maritime nation has soared under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi, alongside Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, laid the foundation stone for this ambitious project.
The Vadhvan Port will feature extensive infrastructure including container terminals, multipurpose berths, and a Ro-Ro berth, all designed to secure a cumulative capacity of 298 million metric tons per annum. Slated for completion by 2029, the project also received significant financial backing from public sector units REC and Power Finance Corp.
