Facing significant financial challenges, SpiceJet has made the difficult decision to furlough 150 cabin crew members for a period of three months.
Currently operating with a scaled-down fleet of approximately 22 planes, the budget airline is besieged by financial, legal, and lessor issues. According to an airline spokesperson, the cabin crew will be sent on leave without pay but will maintain their employee status along with health benefits and earned leave. This decision comes after the aviation regulator DGCA placed SpiceJet under enhanced surveillance.
While the airline works toward revitalizing its fleet through an upcoming qualified institutional placement (QIP), it aims to welcome back its crew members to full active duty once the company's stability improves.
