The Indian tablet PC market, which includes both detachable and slate devices, experienced an impressive growth in the second quarter of 2024, doubling its numbers year-on-year to 1.84 million units, according to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC). Samsung topped the market, securing a 48.7% share.

Acer came in second with a 23.6% share, while Apple held 9.5%, Lenovo 6.9%, and Xiaomi 4.7%. The surge was driven by a significant order fulfillment for the Uttar Pradesh education manifesto and an exceptionally low shipment volume in the commercial segment during the same period in 2023.

Samsung's shipments skyrocketed from 300 thousand units in Q2 2023 to 901,000 in 2024, buoyed by public sector education projects and an aggressive online sales strategy. Acer also reported a remarkable growth, increasing its shipments from 27,000 to 437,000. Apple's shipments grew by 12.3%, while Lenovo's numbers dropped by 2.8% and Xiaomi saw an 85.8% increase year-on-year.
