The Union Cabinet has sanctioned the establishment of 12 new industrial cities across 10 states, envisioning an investment of ₹28,602 crore to bolster domestic manufacturing and job creation, experts have noted.
According to Kushal Kumar Singh, Partner at Deloitte India, the decision underscores the government's commitment to strengthening the manufacturing ecosystem. Singh emphasized that world-class infrastructure in these industrial hubs is crucial for positioning India as a global manufacturing leader, significantly contributing to GDP and generating employment.
Arun Kumar, Partner at INDUSLAW, echoed these sentiments, noting that these industrial cities in states like Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab will balance sustainability, planned urbanization, and industrial development. This approach aims to reduce logistical and operating costs while boosting investment opportunities in residential and business infrastructure through the National Industrial Corridor Programme (NICP).
