The Railway Board has set up a five-member committee aimed at improving the working conditions of train controllers, following a concerning report from the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO). This move comes after the RDSO flagged significant issues such as unattractive pay scales, numerous vacancies, and a lack of basic amenities for train controllers.

On August 27, 2024, an office order revealed the Ministry of Railway's decision to examine and enhance the work environment for traffic controllers. PTI had earlier reported on the RDSO's findings, which pointed to health concerns stemming from high vacancy rates and continuous work-related stress.

The newly formed committee, comprising members from various relevant departments, will also consider restoring the recruitment process for Traffic Apprentices and explore financial incentives based on performance. The committee is expected to deliver its report within two months, potentially bringing substantial changes to the Indian Railway's operational structure.
