Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday visited sites in Raigad district to review pending work on the Mumbai-Goa Highway ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
The visit follows criticism from Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam, who called BJP leader and Maharashtra PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan a "useless minister" for the poor state of the highway.
Talking to reporters, Shinde said advanced technology is being used to repair potholes and damaged stretches, aiming to minimize inconvenience during the festival travel period. He added that officials from NHAI, MSRDC, and PWD have conducted studies and devised effective solutions.
Shinde noted that Union Minister for Highways Nitin Gadkari had provided loans to contractors, but some neglected the work, leading to the current issues. Action will be taken against contractors responsible for substandard road construction, he warned.
While parts of the highway from Ratnagiri to Goa are operational, parts in Raigad remain under construction. A Dapoli resident expressed frustration, noting minimal improvements despite annual reviews. The poor road conditions continue to concern travellers and bus operators during the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
